men's Premier Handball League: Will GD stay top?
One of the tightest men’s Premier Handball League seasons continues, with all eight teams in action.
Mirroring the women’s fixture, West London Eagles and London GD will fight it out at Barking Sporthouse. GD beat Brighton in their previous league match, whilst Eagles drew 26-26 against Nottingham. Eagles are fifth in the table, having won three out of ten games, while GD are at the top of a table tightly clustered in the top four.
Throw-off is at 13.00 at Barking Sporthouse on Saturday. The women’s match follows the men’s game, at 15.00.
Warrington Wolves play Cambridge. Wolves won the first five games of the league season, but have only taken two points from their previous two matches. In the last game they lost by one goal to Olympia. Cambridge’s last fixture was also against Olympia, which they won by eight goals.
Throw-off is at 13.30 at Trafford Soccerdome on Saturday.
Brighton Seahawks are drawn against Nottingham. Seahawks’ two victories have come in rounds eight and nine, where they were victorious over Cambridge and West London Eagles. When Nottingham and Seahawks met in November, it was three points to the East Midlanders but only just two goals. Can Seahawks turn the tide here?
Throw-off is at 14.30 at the Dolphin Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Hawks have won their last four matches in a row. They will look to make it five against Olympia. The two clubs play a women’s fixture after the men’s match. The return fixture between these two clubs in the first half of the season gave victory to the Londoners, but by just two goals. In their most recent league games, Olympia narrowly beat Wolves by one goal, and Hawks bested London GD.
Throw-off is at 13.30 at Oldham Leisure Centre on Sunday.
GD are currently three points clear at the top of the table, with Olympia in second, but Hawks are looking menacing in the third position because they have two games in hand over the teams above them. Ten points separate first and sixth in the table so things are evenly poised as the final handful of league games are contested.
