Men's Premier Handball League: Brighton finally get the win

Brighton Seahawks have got their first win in the men’s Premier Handball League with victory over Cambridge.

Elsewhere in round eight, Warrington Wolves got back to winning ways by beating Nottingham, and Olympia beat West London Eagles by the narrowest possible margin.

After a number of narrow defeats, Seahawks finally got their hands on three points after their first win in their debut season in the top tier. They led by one goal at half-time and went on to stretch that lead to three at the final whistle, defeating Cambridge 28-31.

Albert Sancho scored 11 and Elliot James netted seven times for Seahawks. Top scorer for the East Anglians was Tobias Barber, with eight.

Having lost two consecutive league matches, Warrington Wolves have regained their form with a win over Nottingham. Ollie Tyler scored eight times as Wolves won 34-30. For Nottingham, Jordan Price scored nine and Francisco Pereira scored eight.

The final Premier Handball League match of the weekend saw Eagles meet Olympia in a men’s and women’s double-header. Olympia took the honours in both games but by narrow margins – one goal over Eagles’ men’s team, and three in the women’s match.

The result in the men’s game was 23-24 to Olympia. Carlos Navarro netted nine times for Olympia. Lucas Carstens replied with seven for Eagles.

After round eight of fixtures, GD and Olympia are level on points at the top of the table. Olympia have played an extra game, and GD have a superior goal difference giving them the top spot. Wolves sit third, one point behind Olympia, then there is a four-point gap to Hawks in fourth who have a game in hand over the rest of the league. It is tightly clustered with just six points separating Hawks with Seahawks, at the bottom. Seahawks’ inaugural win has moved them closer to Cambridge, in seventh position, with just two points between the two clubs.
