Cambridge impress in Challenge Cup second leg

Cambridge’s men’s team EHF Challenge Cup campaign came to an end against Ork Samot 65, but they were buoyed by their second-leg performance.

Cambridge lost the first leg 21-43. However, the second leg was a closer affair, finishing in a 24-32 defeat.

Cambridge began the first match brightly, Francisco Seco scoring the first two goals of the match. Ork Samot levelled terms to make it 3-3, before pulling away, punishing Cambridge on the fast break. Seco top-scored for Cambridge while Zsolt Majoros weighed in with five strikes.

Cambridge produced a better display in the second leg. The scores were level at 7-7 midway through the first half, and 11-14 at the break as Cambridge fought wellas a team. Captain Alejandro Garcia Costa beat the keeper six times, while Majoros added four more to his tally, and Fernando Gicci Hernandes also scored four times.

Cambridge coach Agi Foeglein praised the hospitality of their Serbian hosts, adding that Cambridge returned exhausted but satisfied, and ready for Premier Handball League action this weekend.
